The Cultural and historical venues

Parks and recreation
If you have enough of the big city tour, you can relax in one of Berlin’s green oases. With an area of 43 hectares, the Botanical Garden is a great place to visit. In this size and it’s kind, it is one of the largest parks in the world. A huge variety of plants adding up to 22,000 plant species grow here in different gardens. There is the swamp and water park, a fragrance and touch garden, Italian garden, medicinal garden and a lot more. Many historical sights are located around Berlin’s famous boulevard, Unter den Linden such as the Humbold University, the State Opera and the old library. Great to visit anytime of the year Not far from there is the Gendarmenmarkt and Friedrichsstraße. The Gendarmenmarkt is one of the most beautiful places in Berlin. Three monumental buildings dominate the view: the German Cathedral, the French Cathedral and the concert hall. After the second world war, the square was rebuild, and to the 750th anniversary of Berlin completed with the Schiller monument by Reinhold Begen.
Sports activities
For the most people here in Berlin is sport not just a word, but also a part of life quality. It is therefore not surprising that we have many options and sports facilities. More than 2000 sports gyms, 38 public swimming pools for the whole year and a 31 open-air for the summer only public swimming pools. You can participate on several hundred annual sports events and we also have the largest beach volleyball facility in Europe. And the best part is the many of them can be used free of charge. Berlin is probably the best clubbing city in Europe. The clubbing culture has become a life style and a religion. You may wonder why the nightlife is so intense in Berlin. The city’s transformation into the world techno capital is very much linked to the fall of the Berlin Wall. The scene developed in such a unique way and over such a short period of time. Inside abandoned factories and commercial buildings that had to be taken down, clubs started to grow at full speed. Creating a new identity and club culture. Katerholzig is a big exterior and interior amusement park for clubbers. In a huge abandoned factory perfectly located by the River Spree, you’ll find loads of dancefloors, a huge outside area with amazing lighting and you’ll really feel like part of the clubbing scene. Like in almost every club in Berlin, they don’t mess with the quality of the sound. Some of the DJ’s you will hear playing are associated to Katerholzig’s Record label Katermukke.
Going out for dinner
Berlin is known for its diversity in in couches and with that comes also the food. There is also an incredible number of different dining options. Around 2,500 restaurants, cafes, pastry shops and bars offer culinary delights. The Marooush is a must if you like it Oriental. But they have so many places such as the gourmet grill, shisha lounge, a cocktail bars and a clubs. A true highlight is the “royal culinary journey along the Nile”. A selection of cold and warm, vegetarian and non vegetarian delicacies. If you prefer something more eatery, has a huge selection of curry sausages. The most famous curry building in Kreuzberg is the Curry36 now these days they serve also organic sausages. After a long night out it is a perfect place to stop for a bite to eat.
The Berlin wall
The Berlin Wall was a barrier that divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. But mostly demolished between June and November 1990 although a restored part remains along the border of Wedding and Mitte. Visit Checkpoint Charlie, the famous east-west border checkpoint during the Cold War and now a tourist centre, for comprehensive displays telling you the Wall’s story. For more of a real life tour, take a walk along the Wall at the Eastside gallery by the Spree, dividing Freidrichshain-Kreuzberg districts. Graffiti has been removed from the northern side of the Wall, because in most of them were not that artistic anyway and did not have any meaning the Eastside gallery is dedicated to art and preserves the paintings made on the eastern side of the Wall. Although attempting to preserve the spirit of the time, an argument started if it just simply should be painted again by real artists.
